Your first major boss fight in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is against the mysterious Demon Lord Ghirahim. While most of the enemies you’ve faced up to this point were easy enough to defeat, Ghirahim will initially make you look like a fool. However, once you learn how to battle against him, this fight will be over quickly.
Polygon’s The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD guide for the Ghirahim boss fight will explain what the boss does in his two phases. This guide will give you tips, tricks, and tactics to defeat your opponent. It will explain his attacks, movement patterns, and what to do to counter his abilities.
Phase 1
During the first phase of your fight with Demon Lord Ghirahim, he’ll actually grab your sword if you try to swing at him. The first time he does it, he’ll taunt you and toss your sword back at you.
While he’s taunting you, he’ll mention how holding your sword out and swinging at him allows him to telegraph your attacks. If you use Fi to gain some insight into the fight, they mention how his bare right hand can catch your sword attacks. They further explain that Ghirahim is paying attention to where you point your sword so they know when to grab your sword and block your attack.
To beat the first phase, you need to move your sword all the way to one side without striking. Then as his hand is all the way to one side, flick your stick in that direction. This will swing your sword from the opposite direction. For instance, if you hold your sword all the way to the right, then flick the stick to the right when Ghiramin moves his hands in that direction, your sword swipe will move from left to right.
When done properly, Ghirahim will block which creates a large flash. Do this several times. The boss moves to the next phase once he draws his sword.
Phase 2
Grid View
In this phase, Ghirahim will begin attacking you. He has three moves during this phase:
- When he snaps fingers, he’ll shoot a wave of daggers at you. To avoid them, you can slash back at them at the same angle, block them with your shield, bash them with your shield, or simply sidestep them.
- The boss will also teleport behind Link. If you’re fast enough, you can hit him so long as your sword slash doesn’t clash with his sword. If the boss blocks the attack, he will counter-hit.
- His last attack is a dashing sword swipe. You can tell when he is charging up for this move when he does a short pose before charging you. Blocking can heavily damage your shield. If you bash him, that’s more effective and stuns him — giving you a few seconds to land some hits. Otherwise, a well-timed backflip is the best way to dodge.
Continue fighting back against Ghirahim in this stage until he eventually calls off the fight.
