Kaila Charles Facts

  • Kaila, while she was at the Eleanor Roosevelt High School, had led the school’s basketball team to an astonishing 72-5 (win-loss) record and had helped them to 2 Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association Class AAAA state championships (2014, 2015). In both of those years (sophomore, junior), she had also earned the Washington Post’s ‘All-Metro’ honors.
  • In her senior year, at the Riverdale Baptist School, she had led her school to a national championship game. She was, subsequently, named a McDonalds and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-American. She had also won the ‘All-Metro Player of The Year’ award from the Washington Post.
  • In her very first game for the Maryland Terrapins, in her freshman year at the University of Maryland, College Park, she had recorded a ‘double-double’ (a single-game performance where a player scores points in double-digits in 2 of the 5 key statistical categories – points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots). She was eventually named in the ‘Big Ten All-Freshman Team’.
  • In her sophomore year, she had scored more than 600 points and recorded 17.9 points per game. She was just the 3rd player in history to have achieved the former feat (in the sophomore year) and her latter feat was a new record for a University of Maryland sophomore. She was named in the ‘First Team All-Big Ten’ that season.
  • She had finished her collegiate career in 2020 by helping the University of Maryland win the ‘Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament’, having lost the final of the tournament in each of the previous 2 years.
