Man charged over haul of $4 million in cash, drugs and weapons was on parole for drug trafficking

A MOTORCYCLIST accused of stashing drugs and more than $4 million in cash in a Brisbane storage shed has been refused bail after a court heard he is on parole for drug trafficking.

Arian Shabanzadeh, 32, faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with a string of offences including drug trafficking, possession of weapons, restricted items and dangerous drugs.

He was arrested by police after he was pulled over by officers about 9pm on Sunday night near Main St at Kangaroo Point.

Shabanzadeh allegedly tried to evade police before they caught up with him again in Fortitude Valley carrying drugs, cash and a knife.

Detectives then raided his South Brisbane home where they claimed they netted a handgun, steroids, drugs and documents leading to a storage shed.

More than $4 million cash was then found stashed in suitcases in a shed at Kennard's storage at West End, where firearms, drugs, weapons and a taser were also found.

Sergeant Tim Clare opposed Shabanzadeh's release, saying the 32-year-old is currently on parole for trafficking offences.

He said police this week found significant quantities of drugs including 2.1kg of cocaine, 2.8kg of methylamphetamine, 90g of heroin and 240 ecstasy pills.

Detectives say they found more than $4.1 million in cash along with three assault rifles, a handgun, a shortened shotgun and a semi-automatic weapon.

Sgt Clare said significant amounts of drugs were also found on Shabanzadeh when he was arrested as well as almost $4000 in cash.

Police also claim they have CCTV footage of him accessing the storage shed where the bulk of the drugs and money were found.

The court heard police were concerned that if given bail, Shabanzadeh would flee to avoid facing the charges.

Sgt Clare said it was also rare that the courts see the amounts of drugs like those involved in this case.

Defence lawyer Peter Russo applied for bail saying his client intended to fight the charges, and that he had significant health issues.

He also said he was prepared to report to police daily if granted bail.

But magistrate Alan Taylor took all the matters into account and refused to grant bail.

He remanded Shabanzadeh in custody until his next court appearance on November 12.
